ONE NIGHT AT MANIPAL

I was in my MCA when I heard that Manipal Medical College is the best medical college in India, this statement was given by one of my friend, her brother was doing some medical course from Manipal. I never thought that I will ever get a chance to see that place in life, but as a fact life is very unpredictable. The moment comes just after I got married and I went to Sikkim along with my life partner and unfortunately she was not feeling good as she had some bad food in day time by mistake and by same evening she was really in a bad shape so I decided to take medical help, I end up calling our hotel’s reception from where I got to know Manipal is the nearest and best hospital nearby, so we decided to go there, using local transport we entered in MANIPAL.

I reached reception and ask for physician and out of 4 persons none responded at the end I saw a doctor and asked him if he can give me some input after his help I took my wife to emergency room and asked 2 sisters for my next steps, which was to get the file created for new patient. I rushed to registration counter (which was on the other extreme of the hospital), I was able to find a counter on which “NEW registrations” was written but no one was there on the other side of the glass. I approached a boy sitting at counter number 4 and asked if someone will come to counter number 1, his answer was wait someone will come and help you. After waiting for 10 min I was forced to stop a conversation going on between 2 ladies at counter number 3 and one of them told me that I need to stay at counter number 2. And then she came to counter number 2, I asked her I need to register a new patient and she said ok, then she shouted on me and said have you filled the new registration form on which I said have you gave me any form to be filled till now? Then she is replied no and she gave me a form and a pen, after which she continued her leftover talk at counter 3. In less then 1 min I was able to fill the form and then I said “Madam please come I am done with the form” on which she came and took the same from me and started filling an application form on her system’s software, after looking on my handwriting she asked me few questions as in name of patient and my address, and then she said “give me Rs. 10 first” and gave me a tight glance, by then I took Rs. 10 from my pocket and handed over to her. At last I got new file and started running towards other corner of the hospital (Emergency room), the way was so clean that even after using double peace of couth on my face I was able to feel the freshness (I was able to reach my destination and I was alive). Moment I reached there they brought a dead body in the emergency room (“emergency room for dead body ???”) by the time I left my wife and I reached back her condition has deteriorated, I handed over the file to sister and asked her to call some doctor ASAP. Fortunately I was after a long time I was able to see a doctor and it’s the same doctor which we saw the moment we moved in the Hospital (“It was more than 1 Hrs we were in Hospital and hospital and patient was unattended”) doctor had a look on my wife and asked few questions and then asked me bring some medicine from shop, I asked doctor where can I find the shop on which he said near to registration desk (“next corner of the hospital”), I started running towards that corner. Once again conditions was almost same, there were few people at the shop and everyone was talking on mobile (“with lots of smile and laugh”). I waved my hand and handed over slip to that person he took around 10 min to come back to me with all the required medicines and then my wait for someone to come to billing counter starts which again took around 5 min and after payment I started running back. By the time I reached back complete floor was stinking like hell and emergency room was the worst. I handed over the medicine to sister. She use one injection and asked me to wait along with wife on which I asked her (sister) do you people have any other room or place where we can stay, answer was “NO”. and after 5 min my wife started feeling better and then we moved out from that room and moved towards registration counter as I was able to see few sitting desk there. And I asked her to sit there for some time by then I wanted to talk to doctor about other details like by when we can leave from hospital and what all precautions and medicines were supposed to be taken.

After spending close to 3 hrs we were all set to go back to our hotel, and we started moving back to our hotel.

If this is the condition of the best medical hospital in India then where are we moving towards? In recent news papers I read number of medical students will be increased, how about the quality of hospitals?
